Night of a Thousand Stars

Where were you on December 31, 1999? Did you have Y2K concerns? Tracy and George Simmons hosted a formal Millennium Ball on December 31, 1999 in Ontario, California and as 1999 passed into history we rung in the new millennium with family and friends.

Lovana S. "Lou" Jones/Bronzeville Station

U.S. Rep. Bobby L. Rush and other officials joined with Metra leaders on Friday, May 6, 2011 to officially dedicate the new Lovana S. “Lou” Jones/Bronzeville Station along the Rock Island Line.

Speakers at the ribbon-cutting ceremony included Rush, Illinois State Treasurer Dan Rutherford, Ald. Pat Dowell (3rd Ward), Illinois Institute of Technology President John Anderson, Federal Transit Administration Deputy Regional Administrator Rhonda Reed and Bradley Walker, a brother of Jones. Metra leaders who spoke included Larry Huggins, vice chairman of the Metra Board of Directors, and Alex Clifford, Metra CEO.

The Metra Board of Directors voted in 2009 to name the stop after Jones, who served the area as a state representative in the Illinois General Assembly for nearly 20 years. She died in 2006 and was the 3rd great granddaughter of Tate Cornute. You can view photos HERE. They are arranged from the groundbreaking in June 2009, contruction and the dedication on May 6, 2011.
