Cornute Family Reunion—2011

Baltimore, Maryland / Washington, DC

July 22–24, 2011

Cornute Family Reunion—2011 was hosted by Danita Cornute and family.

The Cornute family descended upon Baltimore, MD and Washington DC with a new found excitement and an effervescent glow of anticipation about the new family members we’ll soon meet. We arrived from Ohio, Texas, Maryland, California, Missouri, Massachusetts and North Carolina via car, bus, train and plane. The lobby of the hotel was filled with the sounds of greetings from relative to relative and introductions to the newly discovered with hugs and kisses all around the excited conversations. This, after all, was the first time that the descendants of Tate and his brother Clark were united in celebration of our family history.

The reunion began Friday night July 22nd with the banquet event, hosted by Danita Cornute, at the Knights of Columbus in Baltimore, MD. Everyone looked quite snazzy with their black & white business casual attire as we partook in the Family Dinner.

We gathered at the Civil War Museum and Memorial Saturday morning July 23rd for a tour and presentation about African Americans who participated in that bloody conflict. The presentation was given by Hari Jones, Assistant Director of Civil War Memorial Freedom Foundation, who also presented us with Certificates of Honor for Tate and Clark Cornute who were members of the 5th U.S.C.T (United States Colored Troops).

We ate at the famous Ben’s Chili Bowl in DC and a great time was had by all.
